Letters from You ... and your cats

We love to hear from our adoptive families, and the cats, too.

Scotty - now Harry

My parents and I adopted Scotty on New Years Eve from Standish. He is the best cat in the entire universe and I just want to say thank you, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for having this cat, thank you for bringing this wonderful creature into my life.

Scotty's new name is Harry, which he responds to! You say "Harry!" and he says "meow!" He's an extremely talkative cat but he's also very respectful and keeps his voice down at night. He's a little snuggle bug, wanting nothing more than a side to curl up against.

Oh yeah, and he's completely in love with our dog, Hunter. We thought it would take a while before the two of them became friends but Harry was in love from the start and Hunter warmed up pretty quickly. How could she not, he's just too cute.

I've attached... quite a few pictures so you can see how happy we all are together, how happy he is with Hunter and on his pillow bed right by the window (there's a tree outside the window so he can watch squirrels and birds! He loves it.) We're all head over heels in love with Harry.

So really, thank you. Thank you for doing what you do. Thank you for taking this cat in. Thank you for giving myself and my family the perfect new addition.

 Best wishes,

Elizabeth and Harry/Scotty

Hello SHS!

Bert and Halo (now called Nora/Fuzzy[can't quite settle on a perfect name yet that everyone agrees on]) came home with us on November 19 2011, so a bit over a month and a half ago. They are doing wonderfully with us and our other pets (3 girl cats - Shadow, Meatball, and Odie, and a dog - Sasha). They are definitely complete opposites of each other. Bert is very much a people cat, and follows me around like my shadow. He can often be found either glued to my lap, or in one of his favorite chairs in his original "settling in" room, the extra bedroom. He also likes to stand in front of the fridge and look up at me expectantly - probably a result of being adopted right before Thanksgiving! Little scraps of turkey are his favorite. It took him a few weeks to realize that our other three cats weren't anything to be afraid of. They don't mind him at all because he is so polite. More recently, his desire to be by my side overrode his desire to give the other cats a lot of space, and he's become a regular resident of my bed alongside the oldies. The girls don't bother lifting their heads when he walks by. Sasha, the dog, didn't seem to notice when we brought them home, and is indifferent, spending her time in other rooms than the cats. Bert makes sure to tell her who's boss though, when he sees her.   Nora is much more of a cat's cat and spends most of her time with the girls, sometimes trying to start games with them. Since coming home with us, she's been working on her manners. Initially she would try to play-scratch and bite our hands every time we tried to pet her. Continuing to try to pet her (or play her game of "scratch the hand") seemed like it would just reinforce her habit, so I told everyone in the house to immediately walk away and ignore her if she started to scratch. It's made a significant difference and she's now much more pettable and friendly. :) She still gets a little fiesty sometimes, but she just has a lot of energy. One of their presents for Christmas was this Kitty City - Pouncing Paws toy. It keeps them entertained for a long time and wears them out. I mainly picked it out for Nora since she's the most energetic, but funnily enough, Bert was the first one to take a swat at it. They also got a new scratching post with feathers tied to the top, which Nora promptly tore off on the first night.  I hope Bert and Nora's       old friends at the shelter are doing well and get good homes of their own!

\ My name is Dan G and I adopted Bozo and Tweetie from your shelter shortly over a week ago. The boys have adjusted quite well and are the best cats I could I ask for. They are well tempered, easy going, and well mannered, They keep me active just by their entertaining and playful nature and always manage to put a smile on my face. Following the adoption, Bozo was quiet on the ride home and Tweetie cried a little bit, but when he was able to see his brother (who was quite smart and buried himself under the towels) he would become quite relieved. Following the ride home, the boys remained in the cage while their room was cleaned up and prepared, and 30 minutes later they were allowed to come out and enjoy their new environment. They were quite friendly upon release, but managed to take up residence under the bed for the first full 12 hours following arrival home. After that, they came out and made frequent appearances, seeming more and more comfortable as the next few days rolled by. Up to this day, they have been enjoying each other and have been so comfortable and at home, and I am quite grateful to have met their acquaintance :)

Thank you to you and your staff for helping me bring Bozo and Tweetie into my home, as it was quite a fruitful decision to make. I did not fully intend to bring two cats into my home, but when I saw the two cuties together and same the chemistry they could Both bring to a home, I could not pass them by.Thank you to you and your staff for helping me bring Bozo and Tweetie into my home, as it was quite a fruitful decision to make. Dear Staff:

We wanted to give you an update on Willy, the male tabby that we adopted in October 2011. We have attached a picture of our mischievous boy, who loves to climb in cabinets and small spaces. He is playful, loveable, good-natured, and very vocal about what he wants!

He has adjusted to our daughter picking him up "every five minutes" and is much more patient with her now. His favorite spot is in front of the fireplace, where he likes to lounge on cold winter nights. He also likes to snuggle on the couch when we are watching TV. His favorite toy is a small, soft soccer ball and he is quite a good player!

He loves to eat and tends to beg like a dog. We were spoiling him in the beginning, but have adjusted his feeding schedule to keep his diet on track. He does not eat table food, only cat food.

Overall, he has been healthy, although he was treated for a respiratory infection in November. The veterinarian confirmed that he contracted it from the shelter and shed the virus shortly thereafter. We have stayed on top of the treatments and his condition has improved.

We cannot imagine what life was like before Willy joined our family. He brings us so much joy! We thought you would be happy to know that he has found a loving forever home and the adoption was a success.

 Best wishes in 2012!

 Sincerely,

 The Barry Family
