We speak for those who cannot speak for themselves

Seth and Rachel stopped by Holmes House on December 2, 2017 with bags and cans of food they wanted to donate. They adopted two Standish kittens from PetSmart in Braintree about four years ago and wanted to give back for all the joy they have received from the cats. Thank you Seth and Rachel!

A big shout out to Helping Hands, a group from Duxbury High School trying to do good in the community by offer a helping hand.  This group comes in once a month to assist with a project and socialize kitties.

On October 13, 2017 a group of eight students arrived.  They spent time feeding and holding our most shy kittens at Standish.  Then they washed the inside and outside of all upstairs windows at The Standish House.  This group of teens gives hours every month out of their very busy academic and social schedules to volunteer.  Standish is grateful for them and their choice to have Standish benefit from their giving time.

In November 2017, Helping Hands, the group of High School volunteers came in again to volunteer at Standish Humane Society.  We socialized with kittens, and then put together winter feral cat housing to be dispersed to those feeding feral cats outside.  Once again, these girls dedicated about three hours of their personal time to help Standish.
May 2016.  We are grateful to have received a $500 check from Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation.  The employee requesting the grant was Sheri Scarpino.  Sheri adopted a kitten from Standish Humane Society in January 2013 and wanted to say thank you to us for allowing her to find her best friend, Benson.
About the Community Spirit 9/11 Mini-Grants Program:
To commemorate those Harvard Pilgrim members who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, Harvard Pilgrim and its Foundation created the Community Spirit 9/11 Mini-Grant program.  This program enables employees from Harvard Pilgrim, Health Plans Inc. (our affiliate) and NTT Data (our IT partner) to award an annual grant, completely funded by the Foundation, to the
local charity of his or her choice.  The program began in 2002, and almost $5 million has been given.

The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation was created in 1980 to support Harvard Pilgrim's mission to improve the quality and value of health care for the people and communities they serve by providing the tools, training and leadership to help build healthy communities.  $125
million in funds has been distributed.
Standish was recently the lucky recipient of the generosity and hard work of a group of seniors at Hanover High School.  Niamh Leech, Justin Rusko, Danielle Zarella and Brendan Willet built a luxurious cat tower for the kitties to play and lounge on and they also sold chocolates and raised $450 for use in Standish's crucial programs to help the animals of the south shore.   Standish is fortunate that these young people care so much and took action to make the world a better place for the animals.  Two members of the group visited our shelter to present the check and also brought along a basket of goodies for the kitties.  Many thanks to Niamh, Justin, Danielle and Brendan
The beautiful cat tower for the comfort and play ground for the kitties.
